I haven’t put anything up for a while now, so I stayed up till 3am and came up with a little something. This was a nice old picture I had on my computer and did some variations on the last tutorial I had posted. That’s me and Drew Dawg in 2003 right before I shaved my dreads off!

Here is the final image of this tutorial, I think it is really cool. I have seen this technique done on a lot of different images or at least something similar and think it is a very popular trend emerging in a lot of design. Here are a few examples of similar designs I found.

This tutorial was a little hard to follow it needed just a little more description in some of the steps. It would say to do this or that and not tell you how to do it. I got the just of it though, there were some steps where the author added his own sketches which he scanned and traced in Illustrator. I used some photoshop brushes and did not use my own sketches. I also added some things here and there like the background texture. This tutorial was pretty cool, I used Illustrator and Photoshop, overall it was not so easy to follow but had a great final effect.

Here is the start of the final direction I went in.

I added a diamond shape to enclose the logo, with a little gradient mesh to add something interesting.

I messed around a little with reversing the color out. I think I might be changing the color up a little to match their website color but probably just the letters themselves because the logo has to stand out from the background. They also wanted a little bit of yellow added so I will add a little.

Here is the first of the 3 beer logos I created for a class project on creating a brand. Involve premium Lager.

The second a nice Revolve Hefeweizen, I decided to keep the “Volve” common in all the beers. I also kept the designs similar with my common element of an arrow, the font is another common factor Bauhaus for the main text.

Here is the 3rd beer identity I made, Evolve a Belgian Ale. The project only called for one product but I decided to make a whole line of beers similar to a lot of beer companies out there: Sam Adams, Miller, Anderson Valley the list goes on and on. There was a whole lot more to the project that I will mention in another section ads and an actual physical model.

Here is something I came up with for one of the tutorials I was doing, I thought I would ad a little more to the tutorial than just what was covered. I used the outline shape of a picture I took of my friend skateboarding, I used it to connect with my company name which I got from the movie Napolean Dynomite. It was fun to do just something quick a bold font and a thin font both in complimentary colors. A typical logo approach thick font, thin font creating some contrast in your logo.

This is a logo I created for a project in which we created a sports team and created their logo. I got my inspiration from the Denver Broncos logo a 2 color simple lines approach. I created it to look like a throw back style that is the feeling I get at least, I can see the round main logo element on a patch on a letterman style jacket.

I found it over on www.thedesignworld.com, this was the first time I have been to the site.

Here we have the original posting on thedesignworld.com and in my opinion it’s pretty crazy so I had to give it a go. The author was Young, check his profile page out here. He gave a straight foward tutorial that was extremely simple and so easy to follow, he did not have pictures of what each step would look like but you don’t need them.

Here is my finished piece, I think it’s really crazy looking and that is exactly what I was looking for. After you follow the very easy step by step instructions, you end up with a very cool looking image but you do not stop there grap some bruches and start adding to it. I think that was my favorite part it just made the image something different and you can just sit there all day creating different images by painting in different looks. I had a blast with this tutorial and will be visiting thedesignworld again very soon.

Here is the look chromed out with a little color in there. Now every one who has messed around with Photoshop has probably come across the Plastic Wrap filter which gives a some what similar effect. But this was totally done in Layer Styles which is great for learning about Layer Styles.

Here is my version, I decided to add a reflection, some strokes of light and some bling. I made the reflection in 2 seconds you can check out how HERE, I have been doing that one for a while so it gets easier and faster every time. Actually my friend ryan showed me that one, you can check out his cool graphic design over at mean-e.com. The strokes of light are from a paintbrush set I found on the internet a while back, just do a google search and you will find them or something cooler. I just added all that stuff to change it up a little, you have to make these tutorials yours in some way. Have fun with them and experiment with the possibilities that’s what I did. This is a design of 3 of the members of SOJA, I got the original image from Lindsey Labella a local photographer. She has been taking pictures of SOJA for years now and she does an awesome job. She let me use the pictures for a school project and I decided to use it in some design practice. I have been seeing a lot of design I like that is monotone and duotone and I haven’t been doing much work like that, so I decided to start.

This is another design of some friends of mine, another set that I am doing in duotone.  I tried to make the first one a little more simpler with the background and the second I added the texture to make it a little more grungy. They are both works in progress I don’t know which way I’m leaning towards right now. We’ll see where I go from here.
